Privacy Policy.

Steady ("Steady," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Steady mobile application and the studywithsteady.com website (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we handle it.

By using Steady, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

Who this applies to

Steady is intended for students aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Steady is currently offered to users in Canada and the United States and is not directed at, and does not knowingly collect data from, residents of the European Union or the United Kingdom.

Information we collect

We collect the following categories of information:

• Account information: your email address and authentication credentials, used to create and secure your account. If you choose Sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the email address (or, for Apple, the private relay address you choose to share) and the name that provider passes to us — we never see your Apple or Google password.
• Academic data you provide: course names, assessment names, due dates, weights, and grades you enter or import, so Steady can calculate your standing.
• Syllabus content: if you upload a syllabus, the file or text is processed on our servers to extract courses, assessments, and dates. We do not store the raw syllabus text by default — only the structured items you review and confirm are saved to your account.
• Import data: if you connect a Canvas or Brightspace calendar feed, we read the event data from that feed (course names, assessment titles, and dates) to build your semester automatically.
• Device information: basic technical data such as app version and device type, used to keep the Service working correctly, and — only if you turn on reminders — a push-notification token that lets us deliver those reminders to your device. Steady does not include third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
• Purchase information: if you subscribe to a paid plan, your purchase is handled entirely by Apple's App Store and our subscription billing provider, RevenueCat. We receive confirmation that a purchase was made and its plan tier — we do not receive or store your payment card details.

How we use your information

• To provide the core functionality of Steady: tracking your courses, assessments, deadlines, and grades, and calculating your academic standing.
• To parse syllabi and calendar feeds you provide into structured academic information. Syllabus parsing uses AI as described in "How we use AI" below; calendar-feed parsing does not.
• To generate optional AI coaching insights, as described in "How we use AI" below.
• To send you reminders about upcoming deadlines, if enabled.
• To maintain the security, integrity, and reliability of the Service, including abuse and rate-limit protection.
• To respond to support requests you send us.

How we use AI

Steady uses artificial intelligence in two places. Both run through secured server-side functions — never directly from your device.

Coaching insights (optional). When you request a coaching insight, we send a summary of your grade statistics — numbers only, such as current averages, goal grades, and how much of each course has been graded — to Google's Gemini API to generate a short study suggestion. Coaching requests never include your name, email address, course names, or any free-form text you have written.

Syllabus parsing. When you upload a syllabus, the text of the document is sent to Google's Gemini API, solely to extract the course details, assessment names, dates, and weights it contains. If the AI service is unavailable or your daily parsing allowance is used up, Steady falls back to our own server-side parsing code, with no AI involved. Because it is a document you chose to upload, that text may naturally include details printed on the syllabus, such as the course name or an instructor's contact information. It is used only to extract your course structure, and you review everything it finds before anything is saved to your account.

Calendar-feed parsing does not use AI. In all cases, your data is used only to generate the result you asked for — never for advertising, and never to train AI models by us. If we change how AI is used in Steady, we will update this policy first.

What we don't do

• We do not sell your personal information.
• We do not share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
• Steady does not display third-party advertising.

Who we share information with

We use a small number of service providers to operate Steady, each of which processes data on our behalf and under our instructions:

• Google Firebase (Google Cloud) — authentication, database (Firestore), and server-side functions that power the app.
• Google Gemini API — used to extract course structure from syllabus documents you upload, and to generate optional coaching insights from anonymized grade statistics — both as described in "How we use AI" above.
• Apple App Store and RevenueCat — used to process subscription purchases.

We may also disclose information if required to do so by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Steady, our users, or others.

Data security

Access to your data is restricted at the database level: only you can read or write your own account, course, and assessment data. Server-maintained fields (such as parsing quotas) cannot be modified by clients. We use industry-standard encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) for all Service traffic.

Data retention

We retain your account and academic data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your courses, assessments, grades, insights, and connected-integration credentials are permanently deleted from our production systems, other than what we are required to retain for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes.

Your choices

• You can review, edit, or delete the academic data you've entered directly within the app.
• You can permanently delete your account and all associated data yourself, in the app, under Settings → Delete account. You can also request deletion by contacting us at the email below.
• You can disable reminder notifications in the app's settings.

Children's privacy

Steady is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you within the app.

Governing law

This policy is governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
